Irregular Past Verb
Irregular Past Verb adalah kata kerja yang membentuk Verb 2 (past form) dan Verb 3 (past participle) dengan cara yang tidak beraturan. Berbeda dengan Regular Verbs yang cukup menambahkan -ed atau -d, Irregular Verbs mengalami perubahan bentuk yang berbeda-beda sehingga harus dihafalkan.
Irregular Past Verbs digunakan dalam Simple Past Tense untuk menceritakan kejadian yang telah terjadi dan selesai di masa lalu.

Mengapa Disebut Irregular?
Kata irregular berarti “tidak beraturan”. Tidak ada satu pola khusus yang berlaku untuk semua kata kerja ini.

- eat → ate
- see → saw
Karena bentuk lampaunya berbeda-beda, siswa perlu mempelajarinya secara bertahap dan menghafalnya melalui latihan.
Ciri-Ciri Irregular Past Verbs
- Tidak menggunakan tambahan -ed.
- Bentuk Verb 2 berbeda dari Verb 1.
- Digunakan dalam kalimat Simple Past Tense.
- Harus dihafalkan karena tidak memiliki pola yang selalu sama.

Contoh:

Perhatikan
Setelah did not (didn’t), kata kerja kembali ke Verb 1.
