Past Verb
Past Verb adalah perubahan bentuk kata kerja (verb) yang digunakan untuk menunjukkan waktu terjadinya suatu peristiwa, tindakan, atau keadaan, apakah terjadi pada masa sekarang, masa lalu, atau masa yang akan datang.
Dalam bahasa Inggris, tense sangat penting karena membantu pembaca atau pendengar memahami kapan suatu kejadian terjadi.
Perhatikan contoh berikut:
- I play football every Sunday. (sekarang/kebiasaan)
- I played football yesterday. (masa lalu)
- I will play football tomorrow. (masa depan)
Ketiga kalimat tersebut menggunakan kata kerja yang berbeda untuk menunjukkan waktu yang berbeda.
Mengapa Past Verb Penting?
Dalam bahasa Indonesia, kata kerja biasanya tidak berubah.
Contoh:
- Saya makan sekarang.
- Saya makan kemarin.
- Saya makan besok.
Kata “makan” tetap sama.
Namun dalam bahasa Inggris:
- I eat now.
- I ate yesterday.
- I will eat tomorrow.
Kata kerja berubah sesuai waktu kejadian.
Jenis-Jenis Past Verb Dasar yang Dipelajari di SMP
1. Simple Present Tense
Digunakan untuk:
- kebiasaan
- rutinitas
- fakta umum

Contoh:
- I study English every day.
- She plays badminton every Sunday.
- The sun rises in the east.
2. Simple Past Tense
Digunakan untuk:
- kejadian yang sudah selesai di masa lalu
Rumus
Subject + Verb 2
Contoh:
- I studied English yesterday.
- She played badminton last Sunday.
- We visited Bali last year.
3. Simple Future Tense
Digunakan untuk:
- rencana
- prediksi
- kejadian yang akan datang
Rumus
Subject + will + Verb 1
Contoh:
- I will study tonight.
- She will visit her grandmother tomorrow.
- They will play football next week.
