Reported Speech

Reported Speech adalah cara menyampaikan kembali perkataan, pertanyaan, atau perintah seseorang kepada orang lain tanpa mengutip secara langsung kalimat aslinya. Dalam bahasa Indonesia, reported speech sering disebut:

> kalimat tidak langsung, atau indirect speech <

Fungsi Reported Speech

Reported speech digunakan untuk:

melaporkan percakapan,
menyampaikan informasi,
menceritakan kembali dialog,
membuat berita,
dan menjelaskan ucapan seseorang.

Contoh penggunaan:

dalam berita televisi,
laporan polisi,
cerita novel,
hingga percakapan sehari-hari.

Contoh  Teks “Reported Speech

Contoh Perubahan
Simple Present → Simple Past

Direct:

“I study English.”

Reported:

He said that he studied English.

Dari contoh teks Reported Speech diatas, yuk kita analisis isinya melalui soal dan pembahasan:

  1. What did Rina say about the science competition?

    Pembahasan:

    Pada paragraf terdapat kalimat:

    “She said that she wanted to join the competition because she loved science experiments.”

    Artinya:
    Rina mengatakan bahwa dia ingin mengikuti lomba tersebut.

  2. What did the teacher tell Rina?

    Pembahasan:

    Dalam paragraf terdapat kalimat:

    “The teacher told her that she had great potential.”

    Artinya:
    Guru mengatakan bahwa Rina memiliki potensi besar.
